It is the street with a thached house in which the genius painter Lee Jungseob(1926-1956) has stayed during his refugee life under the Korean War, in order to memorize him. He died young at 40.

He had creative world of paintings harmonized with tranditional beauty and modern sense. In spite of his unfortunate circumstances and tragic life he left his traces in the history of Korean modern arts.

While he stayed in a small room with his 4 members of family from Jan. to Dec.1951 in Seoguipo, he painted some masterpieces including 'Seoguipo's fantasy', 'crabs and children', 'scenery viewing Seobsom'.

His house during his refugee life is restored as it was on Lee Jungseob street. "Daehyang exhibit hall' displays copys of 17 paintings. 'Lee Jungseob Art Festival' to memorize his spirit of art is open on his anniversary of death.

His pen name is Daehyang. Born in pyeongyang. Graduated from the course of art, Japanese cultural Institute.

In 1945 he came back to Korea and became a teacher at the college of education. During the Korean War, he came south as a war painter. Participating in the new realistic school, he used to use a foil paper inside a cigarette pack for painting. This line drawing on foil paper is evaluated as a new expression technique.

Expressing his agony as real he showed the suffereing of the age, perfectly understood western arts, created his characteristic arts, and then became a representative of Korean modern paintings. His major paintings are 'cow', 'white cow', 'Fighting cock', 'children and fish and crabs'.
